Advent Calendar

Here is a different style Advent Calendar aka Christmas count down calendar.

I made this with a Recollections chipboard album.  I took the album apart and embossed all the edges with gold embossing powder.

In the pockets and envelopes are tags with the readings for Advent.

For the two pages that have hinges I bought tiny little jewelry box hinges and “rusted” them with Vintaj Patina paints.

Altered General Foods International Coffee Tin

Reduce, reuse, recycle.  I just put a strip of paper around the tin, added a flower, some bling, and a butterfly spray painted the lid and voila I have a pretty tin to hold my ribbon scraps.  Challenge for the week upcycle something around your house.

6″ x 6″ Paper Organizer Mini Album

This 6″ x 6″ mini album is made with one of Close to my Heart’s 6″ X 6″ Paper Organizers (the my acrylix stamps come in the same type of envelope).  You just cut the sides to make a “book” with a snap closure.

Z335Photo of 6 x 6 Mini AlbumThen cut some 12″ x 12″ pattern paper in half so you have strips of 6″ x 12″ paper.  Then score and fold in half to make 6″ x 6″ pages.  Next pierce the folds of the cover and pages in three places and “sew” the pages into the cover.  Embellish as desired and within a few minutes you have a mini album with a durable cover that can withstand bouncing around in your purse or diaper bag.  Quick, easy and simple.  An awesome weekend project.

Close to my Heart Hinged Display Tray

This is a fun way to display some of your ephemera.  It’s out on display and you can touch it.  I just used glue dots to adhere all the rocks, the feather and the pipe cleaner penguin.  I did a little journaling in one of the squares.  There are so many fun things that can be done with this hinged display tray.  I have another tray that I’m going to lay flat so that it opens up like a box.  I think I’ll put some feet on it and of course decorate it.  All kinds of treasures can be stored in this (chocolate?! but I didn’t say that).

Close to my Heart Event Calendar

This is a perpetual event calendar.  I put a piece of acetate on the number portion below the name of the month.  You can use a dry erase marker on the acetate which makes it reusable year after year.  For the non-floating holidays you make note of them under the acetate as well as birthdays and anniversaries.  Then anything that changes from year to year you write on top of the acetate.  Never forget anything again.  Well maybe we will still forget things but at least it sounds good.  I attached the acetate with brads so that it can be taken off to add to the calendar in the future if needed.  This event calendar is about to retire at the end of July 2015 so if you want to make one of your own hurry over to my site and order yours today.  This is not a kit so you will need to buy the other supplies.

Close to my Heart My Creations Memory Game

Unfortunately this item is retired however this idea can still be done.  The chipboard pieces are divided into three bucket list mini albums (one for each of my family members).  I punched one side with my cropadile and bound them with twine.  Then I lined one side of each chipboard page for journaling the bucket list and left one side for a photo of the bucket list item.  This is great for looking back on if you start feeling depressed or discouraged and even negative.  We need to fill our lives and homes with these mood lifting, positive things to keep us on track.  You could try this with a crush book.

Strathmore Pad Album

Turn this simple drawing pad into a fabulous album.  The camera really doesn’t do this album justice because of all the interactive pages.  There’s an envelope in the back for ephemera, a waterfall mini album, flip ups and flip outs.  The many different was of folding the pages of the drawing pad lead to lots of pockets, tags, and journaling.  Lots of full size photos can be put in this album.  I also offer a class on this album click here for details.

Altered Altoid Tin

Reduce.  Reuse. Recycle. Turn trash into treasure.  An altered Altoid tin.  I carry this in my purse as a brag book and my son loves to look at it while we’re shopping.  I have found that brag books are a good thing for moms to carry.  They entertain bored kids quite well.
